(((My Fellow Americans))) #39: Between 2 Anarchist Rednecks with Brent DeRidder

Brent DeRidder

About This Episode

Sick of having one Yankee after the next on his show, Spike has finally invited a redneck to come on! That’s right, the Anarcho-Redneck Brent DeRidder is joining Spike to talk about his work as the Vice Chair of the Libertarian Party of NC, his founding of the Liberty Coalition for Disaster Relief to help rescue people during disasters, his upcoming project The Liberty Loop, and why people need to stop moving down here from New York, lowering their pickup trucks and pretending they’re one of us.

Intro & Outro Music by JoDavi.

04:43
this in every episode of my fellow

05:09
Canadian bula vinaka
05:12
shout out to Tehran Turks his mom and
05:14
him guys before I introduce my guest
05:16
tonight I’d like to talk about a really
05:17
cool initiative that’s being
05:19
co-sponsored by moneyed waters media and
05:21
stateside kava bar down in Tampa Bay
05:24
Florida it’s called Operation p.o box
05:26
and what this is it’s designed to help
05:28
the homeless in Florida Florida’s a
05:30
specially in the Tampa Bay area they
05:32
have a very bad homeless problem um many
05:35
of the homeless there want to get jobs
05:37
but they can’t get one because you need
05:39
an ID to get a job and you can’t get an
05:43
ID without a home and you can’t get a
05:47
job without an ID and you can’t get a
05:49
home without a job and it’s you know
05:51
it’s a vicious cycle and so what we’re
05:53
trying to do is with operation peal box
05:57
will be getting peel boxes for homeless
05:59
folks because in this at least in the
06:01
state of Florida you can use a peel box
06:03
to to get a state ID and with that you
06:05
can then get a job so we’re getting them
06:07
Pio boxes and then what we’ll be doing
06:09
with their permission is we’ll publish
06:11
those peel boxes so anyone can send them
06:14
gifts like clothing gift cards job
06:16
offers notes of encouragement whatever
06:18
you want to send them keep it you know
06:20
PG pg-13 but send them I guess whatever
06:22
you want and so this is very early on we
06:26
really hope to make a difference with
06:27
this if you’re interested in how you can
06:29
help we are there taking donations at
06:32
operation P o box at gmail.com through
06:35
PayPal
06:36
you can email us at muddy waters of
06:38
freedom calm at gmail.com or inbox us or
06:41
ask us for more details
06:43
this is a new initiative more info is
06:45
coming out pretty much by the day we’re
06:48
hoping to have some actual appeal boxes
06:50
to share with people in the next week or
06:51
so and we will be doing that on this
06:53
show so be sure to stay tuned on that so
06:56
guys I am super excited tonight because
06:59
I’ve had a string of northerners and
07:01
even a couple foreigners on my show for
07:05
the past few months and God love them I
07:07
have no problem with people from the
07:08
north but now I have that long last a
07:12
real southerner I’ve had southerners on
07:14
my show before but it’s been a it’s been
07:16
a minute and I now have at long last a
07:18
southerner on my show and boy did I pick
07:21
a good one
07:21
this man wears many hats all of them
07:24
with Ford logos on them I don’t know if
07:25
that’s true um
07:27
he is the vice chair of the Libertarian
07:29
Party of North Carolina he is the
07:32
founder of the Liberty Coalition for
07:34
disaster relief he is currently working
07:36
on his newest project which is the
07:38
Liberty loop we’ll talk about that later
07:39
ladies and gentlemen please welcome to
07:42
my fellow Americans the anarcho redneck
07:45
himself mr. Brent de Ridder Brent thanks
07:47
for coming on the show hey thanks for
07:49
having me man
07:50
I’m really excited to have you on really
07:53
happy to have a fellow southern Iran I
07:54
am using a little bit of license and
07:57
calling myself a redneck I’m not really
07:58
a redneck I’m redneck adjacent right on
08:04
we go with that I’m the kind of person
08:06
that would use the term adjacent and
08:07
ironically so I guess I’m not alone
08:10
probably disqualifies me yeah you
08:13
probably get your coffee from a shop
08:16
right actually don’t know no I’m Bob I
08:18
drink tea not coffee yeah I’m that guy
08:20
oh wow yeah yeah never gotta read that
08:25
card huh Kenny would take it away if
08:28
they would have never given I mean there
08:30
used to be some religious
08:32
disqualifications when I first moved
08:33
here so I mean you know that’s changed
08:36
recently they’re good with Jews now but
08:38
uh yeah so I mean I’m I was raised in
08:41
the south but my parents are both from
08:43
New England so that shows in my daily
08:46
and the way I carry myself no but thank
08:50
you for coming
08:50
and guys be sure to comment with any
08:52
questions and thoughts and Brent and I
08:54
will tell you if you are right or wrong
08:56
now
08:57
Brent as I mentioned briefly in your
08:58
introduction you’re an anarchist if I’m
09:01
if I’m not mistaken I am and the first
09:06
thing I asked my guests when they first
09:07
come on is how did you get to your
09:08
current political beliefs so how would
09:10
you say you got to where you are being
09:12
an anarchist would you say it was like
09:13
an aha moment or more of a gradual
09:15
evolution over time or tell us about
09:16
that
09:17
no it was a total aha moment I just I
09:21
kind of I realized the Republican Party
09:23
left small government Republicans in the
09:25
dust a while ago and I was young and
09:28
excited about politics and was excited
09:31
about the Republican Party up until that
09:33
point and I decided I better not lose
09:36
that enthusiasm and find something else
09:38
and I found the LP and when I did man I
09:41
just I went from like really right
09:45
leaning Republican to anarchist within
09:49
just a few days so you skipped MIT or
09:52
kissed and went straight to an ER case
09:54
yeah yeah there was no like there was no
09:58
real progression I wrapped my mind
10:01
around the the general idea and I was
10:04
like oh it’s if I want something or if I
10:06
think something I need to convince other
10:08
people it’s a good idea it’s not cool to
10:09
use guns and then I just applied that to
10:12
everything and yeah got there real quick
10:15
cool cool yeah I I think I probably was
10:19
an anarchist at heart for a while but I
10:22
was one of those people that still was
10:24
like I was holding on to my you know
10:27
what they call them your spooks or
10:28
whatever I’m like well but we need
10:29
someone to protect us and was like
10:30
protecting us from what exactly like you
10:32
know what what and and if we do need
10:34
someone to protect us why could that not
10:36
be filled if I’m spending all my time
10:38
saying the government’s terrible at
10:39
everything why would I think they’d
10:40
suddenly be good at protecting me from
10:43
these enemies that they keep creating
10:45
like Isis and al-qaeda so it it it was
10:48
maybe a little bit slower than your
10:49
progression but it was but it was kind
10:51
of the same thing was like oh yeah
10:52
government sucks at everything yeah yeah
10:55
I don’t want to go to the DMV and I
10:57
don’t want the DMV to go anywhere else
10:59
that was the whole thing ah I like I
11:02
like that saying I like that saying so
11:04
really cool so so you said you got
11:08
involved in the Libertarian Party of
11:09
North Carolina how did you get like so
11:13
what brought you to them I you sort of
11:15
generally said that but was there like a
11:17
specific event or a person that brought
11:19
you to them and and does your
11:21
organization allow beard straightening
11:23
like our South Carolina does allows
11:25
Jason line to get away with or what’s
11:27
the story with that we uh we Lian
11:31
convinced me that that was a good idea
11:33
man and no we now found upon beards
11:37
training right that yeah I’m a little
11:39
shorter than I used to be some of you
11:42
folks may have noticed so we don’t do
11:44
that here anymore
11:45
okay like a South Carolina thing is that
11:48
like a like a physical removal criteria
11:50
or just you frown on it it’s uh I mean
11:55
it ain’t good man it’s I’m not gonna
11:59
toss you over it but uh you know it
12:02
moves you toward the line for sure on
12:04
you’re on thin ice you’re on thin ice
12:05
with that right so what so what got you
12:09
know with the party so I was involved
12:12
nationally before I was involved locally
12:14
I kind of found libertarians online and
12:17
started working on some projects that
12:21
were outside of the LP but a part of the
12:24
movement and kind of Susan Hogarth our
12:28
current chair chair the LP NC dragged me
12:32
kicking and screaming to a local meetup
12:35
and it was I met my first real
12:37
libertarians and it was over it was it
12:40
was done the guy knew that was my
12:41
community those were my people that’s
12:43
really cool shit and you know for those
12:45
who don’t know your your around the
12:47
Wilmington North Carolina area right
12:49
yeah I’m uh I’m like thirty minutes
12:52
north of Wilmington cool cool that’s
12:54
really really cool so so you did that
12:57
now let me ask you this so I cuz I’ve
12:59
had this a little bit of not an issue
13:01
but I assume I may be correct me if I’m
13:05
wrong most of your family are probably
13:07
Republican conservative constitutional
13:10
types would it would I am I correct in
13:12
assuming that yeah most of them yeah and
13:16
mine are as well even though they’re not
13:17
from the self but just generally
13:19
speaking if you have family in the south
13:21
and you’re white the majority of them
13:24
are going to be are going to be you know
13:26
Republican or a Republican leaning have
13:28
you gotten any kind of like push because
13:30
you’re you’re like me you’re very vocal
13:31
about your beliefs have you gotten any
13:33
kind of pushback from relatives or loved
13:35
ones or you know people scratching their
13:37
head and asking you if you’re okay or
13:39
you know you need help or anything like
13:40
that no well I was always weird so
13:44
surprised anybody that I went and did a
13:46
weird thing but no my relatives are all
13:50
fairly open-minded and the ones that
13:52
aren’t are polite so there’s not been a
13:55
lot of pushback it’s mostly mostly they
13:59
like the ideas and we get the well
14:01
libertarians can’t win think so
14:03
which is irrefutable right now it’s
14:06
which I was gonna say it’s hard to argue
14:08
like it’s like libertarians can’t win
14:09
yeah we can well why haven’t they well
14:11
that’s it you know not really a good
14:18
answer to that um and I’m not you know
14:20
I’m not I’d like to think most people
14:24
want to be free I think most people like
14:26
the idea of being free I don’t know if
14:28
it’s true that most people want to be
14:29
free which is why I wonder if the
14:31
libertarian party could win but I also
14:33
don’t fault anyone for trying I mean
14:34
you’re at least trying something and if
14:36
nothing else you’re getting your message
14:37
out about yeah and we’ll talk about this
14:39
more you know when someone says well
14:41
what how will the government without the
14:43
government who will do this and it’s
14:44
like well we will you know what well you
14:46
and I can do this we don’t need someone
14:48
to rob us at gunpoint to force us to
14:50
want this we are we’re proving we want
14:52
this already so but uh yeah I guess I
14:55
guess what my family members are just
14:57
glad I’m sober so it’s right on so you
15:02
know I we depends on the metric you use
15:04
and man I mean we can’t we can’t win a
15:06
presidential election right now right we
15:08
can win local races and we can win
15:10
hearts and minds and if you win enough
15:12
hearts and minds it doesn’t matter
15:13
whether you can win a presidential
15:15
election or not I mean that’s ya know
15:17
it’s true it’s sure if you look at I
15:19
would say that the progressive left has
15:24
largely at least for now won most of the
15:27
war quote-unquote I mean you have a
15:29
Republican president calling himself a
15:31
quitter
15:31
who is growing government at levels that
15:35
would have made Obama blush as he also
15:37
sees his guns and Republicans are kind
15:40
of sort of halfway behind at halfway not
15:42
behind it so to me they’re proving that
15:46
you don’t necessarily have to win an
15:47
election if you win like you said hearts
15:49
and minds if you convince enough people
15:50
no we don’t need any of this it really
15:53
doesn’t matter who wins because the only
15:55
way that they can win is to believe that
15:57
right all right I mean yeah what if
16:00
enough people say I’m opting out I mean
16:04
they’ve got nothing left what are they
16:05
gonna do can’t round us all up no no no
16:11
I don’t I don’t think they’ll try either
16:12
I don’t I I I mean they’ve got the FEMA
16:15
body bags or whatever but I don’t I
16:17
don’t think that’s gonna happen
16:18
Oh sir certainly the loudest of us are
16:21
gone I mean but they take all of us all
16:25
of us yeah yeah and it’s I tried to
16:28
occupy a middle ground of where I’m
16:29
vocal enough where people can hear me
16:32
but maybe there’s still people you know
16:34
that they’ll go after first it give me a
16:36
little bit more time to to say stuff of
16:37
course now I’m in Canada so I’m not sure
16:39
how long that’ll left
16:41
so speaking of FEMA camps the Liberty
16:45
Coalition for disaster relief this is an
16:48
organization that you organize people to
16:50
help on the scene during and after
16:52
natural disasters and you have a really
16:54
cool story about how that started tell
16:56
us about how this came to be oh I was uh
17:00
I was hanging out in the bedroom
17:03
working with anarchist ambassador’s
17:06
which is a another organization I helped
17:09
found the idea being that anarchists
17:12
were tired of being told that you know
17:15
without government we’d all fade away
17:17
and we are answered of with you know
17:19
without government who will was we will
17:22
and we started doing things to make our
17:25
communities better and we were feeding
17:26
the homeless and educating people and
17:28
did a lot of different projects and my
17:31
daughter walks in the bedroom and I’m
17:32
sitting there in my underwear working
17:34
away at the computer and she’s like
17:35
we’ve got to help these people
17:37
in Texas that hurricane sit in Texas and
17:39
we got to do something so I said sure
17:41
we’ll go knock on some doors in the
17:43
neighborhood and
17:44
and you know collect food and see what
17:47
we can do and she said no you need to
17:49
call your libertarian friends we need to
17:51
do something we really need to do
17:53
something right all right I did I got up
17:56
with a few libertarians and it to be
17:59
such coldly logical unyk so much of the
18:04
time it was amazing to watch everybody
18:07
just burst into action all at once we
18:10
had people driving down within hours of
18:13
me asking for help I mean so cool that’s
18:17
so cool was great that is so quick that
18:19
was hurricane Harvey right right
18:22
so 20 17 20 2016 2017 2017 yeah yeah so
18:31
you’ve been doing this two years now oh
18:32
we have a comment from Shane Sweeney
18:34
says two of my favorite anarchists on
18:36
one podcast not bad LCDR represent LCD
18:42
what is LCD our Liberty Coalition for
18:45
disaster in love the thing we’re talking
18:47
about okay yes LCDR represent oh it
18:50
speaking of the thing that we were just
18:51
talking about so started with hurricane
18:53
Harvey and then since then you’ve done
18:55
hurricane you did hurricane Florence
18:58
last year we did a little so Harvey was
19:01
our Big Shot and we didn’t we had not
19:04
intended for it to be anything more than
19:06
a one-time effort you know and it kind
19:10
of everybody it was there were a lot of
19:12
folks involved that were very involved
19:13
in other parts of the Liberty movement
19:15
we had a lease almond up in North
19:17
Carolina New York she wishes she was in
19:19
North Carolina she’s up there in new New
19:21
York working the Larry sharp campaign
19:23
and we had some guys from the Austin
19:26
Peterson campaign Zach Garretson and
19:28
Matt Mahler and a lot of folks wish I
19:31
could name everybody but the video makes
19:34
me panic and I can’t think okay no I’m
19:40
saying it’s okay you’re doing great
19:41
right on we had a lot of folks jump on
19:44
but everybody was back to their own
19:46
projects within you know a few months
19:49
and and things kind of died down and
19:51
when Florence hit in North Carolina I
19:54
was actually I mean I’m
19:56
on the coast where we were looking down
19:59
the barrel about a category four or five
20:01
we’re headed straight to the coast I
20:03
know you were too I’m sure you were
20:05
wigging out too
20:06
we left and we went to Alabama and we
20:08
had some like personal we had a personal
20:10
crisis with my daughter and we were
20:12
stuck way way out of state and we were
20:15
super far from home and we had no money
20:17
to get back and we didn’t know what we
20:19
were coming back to and LCDR raised all
20:22
the money we needed to get back home and
20:24
get back on our feet and get our kids
20:26
safe so we’re we have decided that we
20:29
are back up and running we’re working on
20:30
getting legal to take donations in all
20:32
50 states and to do search and rescue
20:34
and disaster relief in all 50 states
20:37
currently we’re working on the
20:39
legalities and the technical side and
20:41
and we’ve got a great new volunteer
20:43
Michael Nolan working our IT department
20:46
and doing great things on the internet
20:48
you’ll be able to do huge things from
20:50
our website very soon so yeah all that’s
20:53
in the works and we should be up and
20:55
rolling by the beginning of 2020 that is
20:58
awesome it’s one of those things that
21:00
you hope to never have to use but it’s
21:02
going to happen hurricanes are gonna
21:04
happen floods are gonna happen tornadoes
21:07
are gonna happen and and other various
21:09
crises and disasters are gonna happen
21:11
and like you said this if you’re an
21:14
anarchist calling someone a bootlicker
21:19
can be cathartic it does nothing to help
21:23
the cause if you believe that there
21:25
shouldn’t be a government and you were
21:27
dealing with people that I’m not
21:29
preaching to you by the way I’m talking
21:30
to the viewers oh yeah yeah I mean if
21:33
you’re and I know you don’t do this
21:36
which is why I’m talking about it um I’m
21:40
at it so if you’re trying to present
21:42
yourself as an embed and I like the term
21:44
anarchists ambassadors you’re presenting
21:46
yourself as someone to represent this
21:49
more compassionate more caring more
21:52
moral more ethical more efficient and
21:55
just better way of doing things than our
21:58
status system and you don’t you a don’t
22:02
have any really good answers for people
22:04
that are asking legitimate questions
22:06
like how will we be safe what about my
22:08
family what about schools
22:10
I want my kid to be smart I don’t want
22:12
them to be dumb and you’re you know
22:14
beating down on them with you know bad
22:17
well I threw actually they’re good memes
22:19
but with memes and you know catchphrases
22:21
that they don’t they don’t get what my
22:23
roads means like you hit them with this
22:26
or you can say this is how we’ll do it
22:30
and actually show them and and represent
22:33
that and be that it’s not as easy as
22:35
just insulting them but it’s it actually
22:38
accomplishes something so I think it’s
22:39
really cool what you’re doing now are
22:40
you that I googled this enough to
22:44
realize that I should just ask you do
22:45
you consider yourself part of the cage
22:47
and Navy or is that even a real thing or
22:49
is it just a media catchphrase how does
22:51
how does that work no so location maybe
22:54
is like an idea and it’s a similar idea
22:59
to what
22:59
LCDR is but that’s it’s there’s several
23:03
different organizations some of them are
23:05
really good some of them are not so good
23:06
okay and we did work with occasion Navy
23:09
in in Texas and we did a little bit of a
23:12
little bit more with them and in North
23:14
Carolina after Florence but it’s a it’s
23:17
another group of search and rescue and
23:19
disaster relief teams that are on a
23:22
grassroots organized and and doing their
23:24
own thing and really working more around
23:27
government and around FEMA than with
23:32
them I mean we kind of have to push
23:34
through most of the time yeah I was
23:36
gonna ask you and by the way again I the
23:38
idea of like government being replaced
23:41
by like rednecks and pickup trucks and
23:44
boats like helping people
23:45
I’d like to me and again I’m I’m from I
23:47
say here I’m in Canada I’m from the
23:50
south so like a lot of people get scared
23:51
of the concept of rednecks because
23:53
they’ve watched too much TV but uh like
23:56
Timmy’s just the coolest thing it’s like
23:57
who’s gonna who’s gonna do it the the
24:00
guys in the pickup trucks are gonna do
24:01
it they’re gonna they’re gonna save us
24:02
all I just think it’s the best I think I
24:04
know you do too I think it’s the best
24:05
thing but you mentioned like so how much
24:10
like problems do you run into with the
24:13
state and the feds when you try to do
24:14
this stuff is it just like you know you
24:16
have to have your licensing or they like
24:18
physically stopping you from helping
24:19
people so we are working on getting
24:23
getting registered with every state some
24:26
states you have to do at county by
24:27
county to do search-and-rescue and
24:29
things like that it’s ridiculous but in
24:32
in a Texas man we were super shocked we
24:37
are guys we’re calling our volunteers
24:40
were calling from the road saying hey
24:42
I’m down here in Texas I’ve got supplies
24:45
in the truck I’ve got a boat on a
24:47
trailer
24:48
I can go pull people out of what people
24:50
were drowning I mean they’re right and
24:54
our teams were being told that it was
24:56
too dangerous
24:57
sometimes it was too dangerous because
24:59
of flooding sometimes it was too
25:00
dangerous because of looters and it was
25:02
being suggested that they were required
25:04
to drop their supplies with FEMA and
25:07
with the Red Cross and leave the
25:09
supplies with them and we were being
25:11
told that a lot of their volunteers and
25:14
employees were were selling relief
25:17
supplies and we were like definitely not
25:19
and I guess a lot of folks got turned
25:22
away there were a lot of people from
25:24
across the country going down and they
25:25
got turned away and they did turn over
25:27
their supplies but this was a lot of
25:30
libertarians and a lot of rednecks and
25:33
they just kind of locked and loaded and
25:35
they were either like well we’re going
25:38
to be like a few guys were like yeah
25:39
we’ll go back home and they just turned
25:41
around and got their boat off the river
25:44
or down a creek and went around the
25:46
roadblocks which was pretty cool in my
25:48
opinion and we actually had one team
25:50
that went back to their car got their AR
25:52
out they were stopped by
25:54
they weren’t stopped by the PD they were
25:56
just stopped by relief volunteers from
25:59
other organizations either you know Red
26:02
Cross or FEMA or whatever right and
26:04
these guys and I can’t even remember
26:06
which team it was but these guys were
26:08
like walked out with a rars and they
26:09
were like no there’s no roadblock here
26:13
roadblock listen this is I mean and this
26:17
is lista this sounds like the disaster
26:20
relief version of when people try to
26:21
help the homeless and you know the
26:24
county health people come out and pour
26:26
bleach on it and everyone gets arrested
26:28
like you know what I guess that’s
26:30
another way to answer without government
26:32
who will do X is like the people that
26:34
the government actively stops from doing
26:36
oh right we had we I don’t you may have
26:39
seen it on the news it was only on the
26:41
news for like five minutes because a
26:43
solid liberty movement activists jumped
26:46
in and helped and God knows the
26:47
mainstream media doesn’t want you to
26:49
hear that but new new new for just a few
26:52
minutes during Harvey in Texas there
26:53
were they were broadcasting that there
26:56
was a nursing home where the staff had
26:59
left the nursing home and these these
27:02
poor geriatric folks are in there with
27:04
like open wounds and yeah they’re in
27:06
there in knee-deep water they’ve gotten
27:08
a medical supplies they’ve got enough
27:10
food and the staff had just left him
27:12
there and there was nobody getting them
27:15
out and they were in an area where we
27:17
were being told we were not allowed to
27:18
go and one of our female volunteers
27:20
Rianne moody god bless her she is
27:22
amazing she jumped in a boat I believe
27:26
and took medical supplies and dodged the
27:30
cops and and everybody else trying to
27:32
stop her and she actually is the one
27:34
that answered the the need there at the
27:38
nursing home which immediately was you
27:40
know the mainstream media wasn’t
27:41
reporting on that anymore of course yeah
27:43
yeah yeah that’s really cool man listen
27:50
and and I mean again I’m this is this is
27:53
my episode to to sing the praises of
27:56
rednecks which I really never get an
27:58
opportunity to do and this is as good an
28:00
episode as I need to do that I we talked
28:04
about you know anarchy and people will
28:06
talk about revolution I don’t really
28:08
talk about revolution and stuff like
28:09
that but people will talk about
28:10
revolution and almost without fail the
28:12
people who talk about revolution and you
28:16
know we’re good the guillotines and all
28:17
this stuff there are people who like
28:19
would lose their minds if Starbucks like
28:22
free and low on coffee for you know from
28:25
frappuccinos for a week or something and
28:27
and and like it’s rednecks who literally
28:31
like society you know the the the
28:33
infrastructure the power and all could
28:36
crumble and the average redneck would be
28:38
good for like a couple months without
28:41
any problem and and so to see them in
28:43
action because like I can do it like I
28:48
have MS I have a drug I have to
28:50
get every month or else there’s gonna be
28:51
real problems so if that ever breaks
28:53
down I’m just I’m gonna be gone after
28:55
about a month and half so you see
28:56
everyone later I’ll see it on the other
28:57
side but you know rednecks get down and
29:00
I just I really like the idea of
29:02
rednecks embracing anarchy because like
29:04
they sort of already are they just don’t
29:06
realize it and a lot of ways in their
29:08
everyday life they’re living outside of
29:11
the government in a way that most people
29:14
don’t even a lot of self-described
29:15
libertarians even me don’t they don’t
29:18
live outside of this status structure
29:21
and rednecks do yeah we so we um you
29:28
know just south of light and east of
29:30
Appalachia and yeah it’s all this is how
29:34
we’re raised the idea of leaving
29:36
everybody alone and treating other
29:38
people how you want to be treated and
29:39
you know property rights and
29:42
non-aggression you know the non
29:44
initiation of force those are all
29:45
instilled in us as children and then
29:49
despite the way what we’re told when
29:52
we’re kids our parents raised us in a
29:54
community and and with a government that
29:57
brainwashes us and teaches us to do do
30:00
different but yeah I mean it’s true that
30:01
you’ve learned by you know hh5 you’ve
30:05
learned everything you need to know
30:06
about politics and I think that’s
30:07
especially especially true in like you
30:11
know a redneck community or in a
30:13
southern community where everybody’s got
30:15
that weird uncle or that you know weird
30:17
neighbor that we all know is a lunatic
30:19
but we’re like hey live and let live you
30:21
know right it’s we’ve got a culture of
30:25
let everybody live and do their own
30:27
thing we just we’re starting to give up
30:30
on it we’re you know the South is
30:32
getting involved in tribalism as much as
30:34
anybody else at this point yeah well I
30:37
mean it’s it’s what happens you get
30:39
something shoved down your throat you
30:41
get told that the only way that you can
30:43
fight this is by joining another group
30:46
that’s gonna shove it down their throats
30:48
instead and I mean and I’m not going to
30:50
try to whitewash southern history I mean
30:52
there’s all sorts of you know I’m not
30:54
gonna try to pretend that opposition to
30:57
some ways that southerners are came out
31:00
of the vacuum out of nothing I mean we
31:02
if you look at slavery and segregation
31:04
I’m not trying to whitewash a lot of you
31:06
know southern history but I think the
31:07
average southerner right now just like
31:11
the average person but but especially
31:12
like the average what I would consider a
31:14
redneck like even if they’re a military
31:18
vet even if they have friends in the the
31:20
police even if they think the government
31:22
should be stopped in you know foreigners
31:24
from coming in or whatever at the core
31:26
of everything if you really break down
31:28
what it is they want they want to be
31:31
left the hell alone
31:32
and if you can if you can talk to them
31:35
and say yes we want to leave you the
31:37
hell alone and then get over that gap of
31:40
saying we want to leave everyone the
31:42
hell alone and they’re gonna leave you
31:45
the hell alone and everyone’s gonna
31:46
leave each other the hell alone and then
31:48
if you want to have something to do with
31:49
someone you can voluntarily do it I
31:51
think that that’s a yeah I think that
31:53
that’s a you know that’s I think that’s
31:55
a lot easier to sell that to them than
31:57
to a lot of other people know yeah it’s
31:59
not a hard sell in the South I mean I’ve
32:02
got a lot of that’s all politics as I
32:05
say it all the time it’s a sales game
32:07
we’re just selling our ideas to other
32:08
people right and that’s that’s my
32:10
professional background believe it or
32:12
not I am definitely a redneck but I used
32:14
to be clean-shaven wear a suit and tie
32:16
to work every day and that’s what I did
32:18
was was sell things I never he brought
32:21
it up earlier the the idea that we tell
32:24
people that they’re idiots and and you
32:26
know I’d like were the smartest guy in
32:28
the room we just we’re the middle of the
32:29
room screaming about how smart we are
32:31
yeah I’ve never made a sale about
32:33
telling somebody they’re an idiot or
32:34
that they’re their needs and wants were
32:37
unimportant never have I called somebody
32:39
a cook and they were like oh yeah there
32:41
take my money it don’t like that we’ve
32:44
got to be empathetic you’ve got to find
32:46
some common ground that being said yeah
32:49
here in the South it’s a much easier
32:50
sell than say New York where people
32:54
really appreciate big brother a lot of
32:57
the time yeah Kerry hearing talking to
33:00
Larry sharp I had him on a couple months
33:02
ago now two three months ago now and he
33:04
said like I’m an anarchistic heart I
33:06
live I’m from what does it Brooklyn or
33:08
the Bronx they don’t wanna hear about
33:10
Anarchy they want to hear about schools
33:11
and and roads and the transit system
33:13
like they don’t they’d there’s a
33:15
completely different world if you start
33:17
talking about
33:17
aggression and the nature of the state
33:20
they have zero interest in any of that
33:21
whereas like I think a lot of rednecks
33:23
really they’re like yeah I get that so I
33:25
think they could so speaking of sales
33:28
terrible segue I have to sell something
33:30
for about 30 seconds so bear with me
33:32
guys if anyone’s out there looking to
33:33
make a podcast you should use anchor
33:36
anchor is the easiest way to make a
33:38
podcast gives everything you need in one
33:40
place for free which you can use right
33:42
from your phone or your computer I’m
33:44
actually using it right now creation
33:46
tools allow you to record and edit your
33:49
podcast so it sounds great
33:51
they will distribute your podcast for
33:53
you so it can be heard everywhere on
33:55
Spotify Apple podcast Google podcasts
33:57
and many many more you can even make
34:00
money from your podcast I know you
34:02
probably think that that’s a pipe dream
34:03
and it a lot of the time is but you
34:06
actually can make money from your
34:07
podcast with no minimum listenership
34:09
we’ve actually started making money with
34:11
ours now thanks to anchor so if you are
34:13
looking to do that to podcast be sure to
34:16
download the anchor app or go to anchor
34:18
dot FM to get started now Berndt
34:21
speaking a podcast is a much better
34:23
segue speaking of podcast you actually
34:25
had a or have a podcast or an occasional
34:28
podcast called the Antico redneck I
34:30
watched the one the episode where it was
34:34
a you hosted a debate between Joshua
34:37
Smith and Mike Shipley on your podcast
34:40
and you were co-hosted by the always
34:42
dressed to the nines
34:43
Ryan Teeter do you do you plan on doing
34:47
any more of that or is that kind of on
34:49
on ice while you’re while you’re working
34:52
on other stuff or what’s going on with
34:53
with a anarcho redneck so well that was
34:57
um I actually created the anarcho
35:00
redneck page as a joke buddy mine’s a
35:03
garrison started calling me the anarcho
35:05
redneck when I I made a point that I
35:07
don’t use a qualifier I’m just a redneck
35:09
so I mean I’m sorry I’m just I’m just an
35:12
anarchist I I’m not in you know
35:15
anarcho-capitalist or a social or narco
35:19
socialist or whatever I’m just and I you
35:22
know I didn’t think an economic
35:24
qualifier was prudent and so I encourage
35:27
folks to use you know soccer anarcho
35:30
soccer mom or
35:30
whatever you happen to be if we’re using
35:32
qualifiers pick something more fun than
35:34
economics but yeah that was just a
35:38
temporary thing and kind of a joke and
35:40
then somebody said that they really
35:43
wanted to see Mike Shipley and Josh
35:45
Smith have a debate but then nobody
35:47
could work it out and I was like well
35:49
I’m friends with both of these guys I’ve
35:51
been naked and yeah both of them jumped
35:54
on it really quick they were excited to
35:55
do it and that went really well I think
35:57
they were both very aggressively not
36:01
wanting to agree with each other but
36:02
there was a lot that they were able to
36:04
agree on so of course it was I was happy
36:07
about it we may do some more in the
36:08
future actually when I’m doing the
36:09
Liberty loop I plan on kind of with the
36:13
theme of the loop which is education I
36:16
kind of plan on talking to people as I
36:19
go from city to city and and from
36:22
boating community a boating community
36:24
and do interviews with people who are we
36:26
would consider status and right kind of
36:29
pitch them the idea of libertarianism
36:31
and see how they respond to it so very
36:33
cool yeah I like it I like I like the
36:36
brand antico redneck and I like the as
36:39
soon as I saw it I’m like yes boy I
36:42
thought two things yes and wish I had
36:44
thought of it but honestly I again so
36:48
when I’m up here people call me a
36:49
redneck because I’m not like a filthy
36:52
Canadian but um I I what I am is not a
36:57
right i I’m not I’m not I’m not and and
37:01
like so if I’m around nothing but people
37:05
from up north I have a very very slight
37:07
Southern drawl that you don’t hear right
37:08
now because I’m not um but if I were
37:11
around them you can hear but you’d have
37:13
to also not talk and you just hear just
37:16
a slight and and so people up here
37:18
they’ll be like are you from Texas and
37:20
I’m like you wouldn’t understand someone
37:22
from Texas I don’t think because if
37:23
you’re affinity if this is if you’re
37:26
thinking this is tech I’ve nope
37:28
definitely not so but no I I love the
37:31
brand I hope to see more out of that but
37:33
that brings us to we mentioned it
37:35
briefly that brings us to your newest
37:37
and possibly your most ambitious prog
37:39
project the Liberty loop tell us about
37:41
that
37:44
well I don’t know man my wife lets me
37:47
get away with some really ridiculous
37:48
stuff and that’s basically what it is is
37:50
I I come up with incredibly stupid ideas
37:53
and I just throw noodles at the wall and
37:55
see what sticks and one night I was
37:58
weave I’m planning on launching a
38:02
consulting firm to kind of allow me to
38:06
continue to do like the 60-ish hours a
38:08
week I do for the Liberty movement and
38:10
and hopefully eke out a meager living
38:12
right I thought a really cool way to do
38:15
that with a really cool way to do that
38:16
would be to travel around and do
38:17
seminars about selling libertarianism
38:20
and and you know salesmanship in the
38:22
Liberty movement and she was like that’s
38:26
a great idea you should do that and I
38:27
said cool and we weren’t moving onto a
38:29
houseboat and I was like well you know
38:32
we should get on the houseboat and do
38:33
the Great Loop which is the intercostal
38:37
waterway on the East Coast yeah let me
38:38
start while you’re saying that let me
38:40
pull up a picture of the Great Loop for
38:41
reference go ahead okay yeah so we would
38:45
go if you’re looking at North Carolina
38:47
I’m on the southeastern part of North
38:49
Carolina right there where that little
38:53
tip is before you get to South Carolina
38:56
we would take the intercostal waterway
38:58
up the eastern seaboard and into New
39:02
York when we would use the rivers there
39:04
to cross into the Great Lakes travel the
39:07
Great Lakes to the river system in the
39:09
middle of the country into the Illinois
39:11
and head down toward Louisiana into the
39:14
Gulf and back up and around Florida and
39:18
the idea is to stop in different
39:21
affiliates and help affiliates to grow
39:23
and do seminars on selling
39:25
libertarianism and take libertarians out
39:27
into the world and show them how to
39:29
pitch our ideas to other people so they
39:31
can grow their affiliate and grow
39:32
funding and kind of make the movement
39:34
bigger but my wife I was like well if
39:37
we’re moving all the kids onto this
39:39
houseboat what if we just travel the
39:41
loop and do that and she was like that’s
39:43
a great idea just out of nowhere I was
39:45
totally baffled I really did not have
39:48
any intention of doing it I didn’t think
39:49
it was that great an idea really but she
39:52
thought it was cool so the kids latched
39:55
on the idea and a lot of liver
39:56
I thought it was a really cool idea so
39:58
we’re gonna do it we’re actually getting
40:00
I had enough friends on the west coast
40:02
that we’re like we want to have you come
40:05
out of our affiliate and do a seminar or
40:07
speaking event or whatever that the wife
40:09
has agreed to buy a school bus and we’re
40:11
gonna outfit the school bus as a tiny
40:14
home and when we’re not doing the Great
40:16
Loop and traveling in the boat we’re
40:18
gonna be headed out of the West Coast to
40:20
do seminars and speaking events out
40:22
there and I see how I can travel around
40:25
and do this and how long people will put
40:26
up with me and how long it is before she
40:28
threatens me with divorce so hopefully
40:31
that’s a while hopefully you get at
40:33
least a few years of marriage out of
40:34
this because I am so let me take this I
40:36
love all of this like I just I love the
40:40
whole idea and there’s so many different
40:42
parts of it I love first of all I love
40:43
the idea of you traveling around
40:44
spreading liberty and helping local and
40:46
regional affiliates and all that I love
40:48
the idea of both anarchists evangelism
40:51
and redneck evangelism fused together on
40:54
a tiny house and a houseboat go I just
40:58
the whole thing I am in love with a
41:01
frequently so so this was not I was
41:04
gonna this was not your daughter
41:05
storming into your room and telling you
41:06
to do this again this was your idea no I
41:09
actually that was the hardest one to
41:11
convince was the 14 year old everybody
41:13
else thought it was a great idea Emily
41:16
who spurred us into founding the Liberty
41:20
Coalition for disaster relief was the
41:22
one that was least excited about it we
41:24
it really took some convincing and some
41:26
bribery and likely bribery in the near
41:30
future because they continued bribery
41:32
was that like a school thing she was
41:34
gonna miss her friends or just know
41:36
we’ve been homeschooling for a couple of
41:38
years now oh we love it yeah so we’ll
41:41
continue homeschooling and I you know
41:44
she’ll make friends and all parts of the
41:46
country it’ll be it’ll be great for that
41:49
is she’ll pretty she’ll totally be okay
41:50
I got a daughter you’ll totally be fine
41:53
oh yeah yeah she’s gonna love it I mean
41:55
it sounds I’m I’m gonna I can I tag
41:59
along for a little bit yeah we are we
42:02
are encouraging actually it’s it’s safer
42:04
and more fun with a community so people
42:06
keep going hey can I come with you for
42:08
you know this
42:10
yeah yeah this part of your trip in the
42:13
yeah and the answer is absolutely hit me
42:15
up on Facebook and let me know where you
42:17
want to go if you want to tag along for
42:19
the whole trip I mean just make sure you
42:22
got a boat that’s up for it and if you
42:24
don’t do it anyway it’ll still be fun
42:25
but just tow along so if it floats yeah
42:29
okay that is so freaking cool so by the
42:32
way I just need to extend two
42:33
invitations to you one is Matt Wright
42:36
the co-owner of Muddy Waters media he is
42:40
in the Tampa Bay st. Petersburg area so
42:43
he said please be sure to stop by there
42:45
and hit him up and he will he will give
42:48
you the the kings tour of that area and
42:51
I know that there is a their Liberty
42:53
affiliates there as well they actually
42:55
just set a convention there I think in
42:58
Tampa or st. Pete or something anyway
43:00
and then the other event so I will
43:03
actually be on the ass end of your trip
43:05
in Myrtle Beach if you if you can if you
43:10
can bring yourself to visit the dirty
43:12
Myrtle then we’d love to see you here as
43:15
well I keep saying here we’d love to see
43:16
you in Myrtle Beach South Carolina where
43:18
I usually am as well well right on
43:22
definitely yeah we might uh we’ve got a
43:24
lot of friends in South Carolina so we
43:26
may actually head south a few days first
43:30
oh cool cuz why not yeah why not we’ve
43:35
got to we’ll see you guys soon yeah I
43:36
know Sweeney really has a big man crush
43:39
on me and lions and and all those guys
43:41
so give them a little taste before I
43:44
take off up north
43:46
yeah come visit that come visit the low
43:49
country down here that’s really cool so
43:50
um now Brett I started this show with
43:55
the purpose of achieving the following
43:56
goals explaining why government is
43:59
unnecessary and harmful is the first one
44:01
the second one is prefiguration or which
44:04
is basically answering the question of
44:06
yeah but without government how would we
44:07
do the things we need which I I think
44:09
we’ve we’ve covered pretty extensively
44:10
tonight so far the third one is and this
44:15
is probably I guess the Holy Grail or
44:18
the hardest part which is showing
44:20
libertarians how to actually relate
44:24
people and spread the Liberty movement
44:27
which is apparently anathema to many I
44:30
mean many of us just are averse to
44:32
relating to normies and like you know
44:36
making basic human communication with
44:39
them I think a lot of us join this
44:41
movement because we’ve been so spurned
44:43
by it we’ve been so spurned by the rest
44:47
of society that it’s almost like well
44:50
screw them I don’t care what happens to
44:51
them and it’s like yeah but you kind of
44:52
need them because right now we’re in
44:54
this sort of forced Association and of
44:58
course the fourth reason for the show is
44:59
to demonstrate that only I am right at
45:01
all times and I don’t I don’t expect
45:04
anyone’s help in that but to speak on
45:06
the third goal like you mentioned you
45:09
have a background in sales management
45:10
correct
45:11
yeah I was a salesman for a long time
45:14
and and I was actually there’s not a lot
45:18
of things I’m great at sales is it I was
45:21
a sales trainer I was a Salesman I can
45:24
sell anything to anybody anytime
45:25
anywhere that is what I do and that is
45:29
the biggest problem we have in the
45:30
Libertarian Party and the Liberty
45:32
movement is there’s a severe lack of
45:34
salesmanship and there’s there’s very
45:36
little empathy when we’re trying to
45:39
convey our ideas and there’s not really
45:42
a difference between and I mean there is
45:45
some difference but in the in the core
45:47
of what we’re doing there’s not really a
45:48
difference between sales messaging and
45:52
political messaging right like I mean
45:54
there’s it’s the same structure of what
45:56
you’re trying to trying to relate to and
45:59
then and then pass on to the consumer or
46:02
prospect or whatever you want to call
46:04
them the person you’re speaking with
46:05
yeah absolutely yeah so I always tell
46:08
people that there’s no difference I’ve
46:09
never found a difference the idea what
46:13
we’re selling our ideas and the currency
46:16
is you know we sell you the ideas and
46:18
you pay us and votes and donations and
46:21
and volunteer hours and nice that’s all
46:24
politics is it’s what the situation
46:28
we’re in though is that we’ve got Pepsi
46:30
and we’ve got Coke and we’re this little
46:32
startup soda factory right we’ve got to
46:36
get we’ve got to get it out there
46:37
that that arse you know we’ve got better
46:40
flavor and we’ve got better prices and
46:41
it’s we have a really hard time doing
46:44
that because we again seem we tend to be
46:47
that the really intellectual guy in the
46:50
middle of the room talking about how
46:52
smart he is with everybody else you know
46:55
you know really trying to avoid us right
46:59
and then I had Robin that’s her speaker
47:04
and I mind turning your speaker down
47:07
just a little bit turn my speaker down
47:09
yeah just a little bit yeah okay yeah I
47:14
think so yeah it’s okay now um so I had
47:17
Robin Koerner on who does a lot of stuff
47:19
about libertarian messaging and he’s
47:20
working on a new on a new project right
47:22
now um but he talked about the fact that
47:25
libertarians tend to think from a more
47:29
logic base even though we still have
47:31
emotions we still have innate an innate
47:33
sense of things we tend to operate in
47:35
philosophy that’s why you can’t just be
47:37
an anarchist
47:38
you have to be an inner Co blah blah
47:40
blah and then even within that and there
47:42
are different you know factions within
47:44
those groups and it’s it’s because it’s
47:46
philosophy based and that’s a good thing
47:47
because it philosophy is is what what
47:50
ideas are born out of and and if you can
47:53
be philosophically consistent then that
47:56
means you’re building something that’s
47:57
gonna actually work but the problem with
48:00
that is that most people don’t think
48:03
that way and when you come at them with
48:05
this you know very logical a very
48:09
logical not even sales pitch but this
48:13
logical messaging and not just logical
48:16
but brutally logical like saying things
48:18
like you know
48:19
well my rights are more important than
48:21
your children no one is gonna say hey
48:24
you know what that’s a great point your
48:25
rights are more important than my
48:26
children I’m gonna vote for you that’s
48:28
not what you’re gonna get them with you
48:30
you you relate to them on you know this
48:32
is all what’s it called with sales found
48:36
I used to feel felt found I love you
48:40
spike heel fell fell found yes yeah I
48:44
mean it’s you know you gotta find common
48:47
ground and I always talk about common
48:50
ground
48:51
is really important so somebody tells
48:52
you if you you’re talking to somebody
48:55
and they tell you that they’re really
48:56
interested in universal health care the
48:59
libertarian response tends to be your
49:01
health care is not my problem which is a
49:04
terrible response it’s right now the
49:06
conversations over we’re all done
49:08
talking because you’re a jerk that
49:09
doesn’t care about what I need yep but
49:12
you know as a libertarian as an
49:14
anarchist my response to universal
49:16
health care is I’m glad and health
49:19
care’s important to you
49:20
health care is important to me too let’s
49:22
figure out how we can get everybody
49:24
health care in the best possible way and
49:27
let me explain to you why government is
49:30
not the best possible way right you can
49:32
say the messaging thing man you can say
49:35
anything that Arvind Voris says that
49:38
gets a really visceral negative reaction
49:41
I can say he doesn’t say there’s very
49:44
little that we disagree on right and
49:46
that’s the thing exactly yeah it’s just
49:49
the way he says it so you the first part
49:52
of it is knowing how to get your message
49:53
out there and how to say rather than
49:55
police our welfare whore’s murderous
49:58
welfare horse we could say something
50:00
like in the system we live in now police
50:03
are currently are pushed to to
50:08
criminalize victimless crimes right
50:10
I want a society where police are
50:12
expected to do less work to put their
50:15
lives at risk much less often and get
50:17
paid significantly more by the by the
50:20
private market right and that’s a lot
50:22
better than your your murderous welfare
50:24
horse you know it resonates better with
50:27
police who I would prefer be on our side
50:31
when things start to go bad when when
50:34
things start to change instead of we
50:37
changing hearts and minds mean that
50:39
that’s that’s one less gun pointed in my
50:41
face right and I you know I prefer that
50:43
but you brought up feel felt found and
50:45
that’s great it’s a little more advanced
50:48
so when somebody gives you an objection
50:50
to libertarianism in sales we use feel
50:54
felt found I understand how you feel
50:57
many people have felt the same way what
51:00
they have found is and that’s how you
51:02
offer your rebuttal
51:03
you don’t say you’re a moron and here’s
51:06
why your moron you’re still saying
51:08
you’re a moron it’s okay to tell
51:10
somebody they’re an idiot you have to do
51:11
in a very polite way you’re an idiot
51:14
because right very gently and if it
51:18
weren’t for people gently telling me
51:19
what an idiot I was I never would have
51:21
become an anarchist I never would have
51:22
found libertarianism and I wouldn’t be
51:25
working for the party like as much as I
51:27
am so right it’s really important that
51:30
we give up the idea that we are right
51:33
and so we can be jerks about it and
51:35
embrace the idea that we are right and
51:37
we need to gently make everyone else
51:39
right – yeah because it’s not working
51:42
so right I beg most of you I beg all of
51:46
you most of whom have not always I’ve
51:50
met a handful of people are like I’ve
51:52
always been an anarchist and I’m not
51:53
sure I believed them when they said that
51:54
I certainly was not when I get one thing
51:58
that has helped me when I get when I’m
52:01
in these you know internet debates or
52:04
in-person debates and they’re talking to
52:06
me about you know you know they’re fine
52:09
with child separation because these
52:10
illegals are coming and taking our jobs
52:12
and and you know and they’re gonna end
52:15
up on our welfare system and did you
52:17
hear that poor girl out in California I
52:19
got killed by that illegal you know I
52:20
don’t care what happens to their kids I
52:23
try to remember that I was maybe not
52:25
quite that brutally there but I was
52:27
there where I would say well you know I
52:29
think that’s terrible what’s happening
52:30
but we got to keep these illegals out I
52:31
mean it you know there’s danger and
52:33
they’re they’re coming and getting on
52:34
our welfare system and and and for those
52:37
who don’t believe that but they are on
52:39
the side of you know for example you
52:42
know forcing people to you know bake
52:45
cakes for you know for gay weddings or
52:47
forcing people to use gender pronouns
52:50
that they don’t agree with or whatever
52:52
whatever it is your thing your kink of
52:55
what you think the government should be
52:56
forcing people to do at gunpoint you
53:00
don’t believe that anymore but you’ve
53:01
probably used to to some degree so just
53:04
remember talk to this person like you’re
53:06
talking to so I say to myself pretend
53:09
you’re talking to 2013 spike or 2011
53:12
spike and yes what did he want to hear
53:17
that would have made him an anarchist
53:20
then because I never got that what I got
53:22
was people being brutal to me and me
53:23
saying well you hate America and you
53:24
want the Muslims to win and then going
53:26
about my day and you know the terrorists
53:28
are gonna you know they you want the
53:29
terrorists and the Mexicans to come in
53:30
and rape all of us um what it took for
53:32
me was like me really examining my
53:34
beliefs in the in the wake of some of
53:36
these different political events that
53:37
happen like the the shutdown theater and
53:40
all that stuff that happened in 2013 and
53:41
2014
53:42
and I had to examine that myself but it
53:45
did not happen because someone brought
53:46
me into it afterwards I went back to
53:49
people who had said stuff and I’m like
53:50
you’re right but ultimately they didn’t
53:52
bring me into it if someone had talked
53:55
to me in the same way and maybe they
53:59
planted the seeds but it took a lot
54:01
longer because when someone attacks your
54:03
belief system you’re taking it as a
54:06
personal attack and you’re not
54:07
interested in what you have to say if I
54:08
brought you on the show and I’m like
54:09
you’re an anarchist what kind of moron
54:11
are you you know what cat you know
54:13
what’s gonna happen here what do you
54:14
want your kids to get raped by Mad Max
54:17
or you know what if I start saying all
54:19
that stuff how likely are you to listen
54:21
to fur film not to hang up on me but
54:23
even if you if you were in person and
54:25
you don’t attack me or you know you know
54:27
slugged me or whatever how likely are
54:29
you to open yourself up to what I have
54:31
to say right I mean you you’ve got to
54:34
you’ve got to be empathetic about it
54:36
you’ve got to care about what other
54:38
people want and what they need and
54:39
you’re right man I mean you attack
54:41
somebody there the conversation is over
54:44
and a lot of people go well I’m not a
54:47
good salesman well then shut up like
54:49
really if you can if you can’t be a good
54:51
salesman about it if you can’t use just
54:53
a modicum of empathy and salesmanship
54:56
just shut up stop making my job harder
54:58
really this goes out to because I know
55:01
you you’ve got the very brash anarchist
55:04
crowd that watches and I love it
55:05
but I tell all of you now please shut up
55:09
please stop making our jobs harder and
55:12
just be nice to people if your neighbor
55:14
says that they really need their welfare
55:15
they probably really do need their
55:17
welfare and you telling them that
55:18
they’re stealing it out of your pocket
55:20
is not helpful to the cause if your if
55:24
your neighbors a fireman and you tell
55:25
him that he’s a you know he’s sucking at
55:28
the
55:28
the government heat its man it’s not
55:31
productive it’s not helpful you’re not
55:34
changing anybody’s mind and being a
55:37
shock jock is fun on the internet but it
55:40
makes real life harder for people who
55:42
are doing actual work so stop yeah
55:45
pretend they’re the police and shut up
55:47
right yeah if they ask you something to
55:50
say I don’t answer questions and walk
55:52
away that’s the if you don’t want to
55:54
play the game of actually relating to
55:56
people it’s not helping and my I’m a mix
55:59
of the two
56:00
I get the there is a time and place for
56:04
being I don’t have brutal is the right
56:06
word but being a brash yeah no this is
56:11
my belief system and I and I don’t I
56:13
don’t care and I do that a lot of my
56:14
posts on my facebook profile but I do
56:18
them to an audience that either agrees
56:20
with me or knows how I think about stuff
56:22
but like my general messaging to people
56:25
other than the fact that I you can trust
56:27
me as being correct in all things is
56:28
that like because I’ve ascended like I
56:32
there’s no nothing else for me to learn
56:34
I’ve I’ve reached ascension and you can
56:36
just ask me um but but for those of us
56:38
who haven’t ascended we don’t like I
56:43
don’t believe what I believed a year ago
56:46
and I was already an anarchists so how
56:48
hot II can I be pre ascension how
56:51
haughty can i be in my beliefs in in in
56:54
saying oh you believe that well you’re a
56:56
schmuck
56:56
like you know talk to the / you might
56:59
learn something from them yes you’ll
57:02
probably still be an anarchist cuz we’re
57:03
right but you might figure out at the
57:05
very least you might figure out they’re
57:07
not there wanting to use government
57:11
schools or welfare or socialized health
57:15
care or the you know cradle to grave
57:18
military benefits or you know have their
57:21
son be a cop is probably from very
57:24
relatable reasons that you can relate to
57:26
you just don’t agree with the action
57:28
that they’re taking and you’re a chance
57:30
to stop that is to actually relate to
57:33
them as though you and they are both
57:35
human beings just bear with me that
57:37
they’re you’re both humans who can
57:40
communicate and
57:42
if not agree on things at least come to
57:46
an understanding that you both want the
57:48
same thing because that’s gonna open
57:50
them up if not to what you have to say
57:52
then – at least someone maybe a Brent or
57:54
a me or some other anarchists or some
57:57
other libertarian or maybe even just
57:59
some other mineral ong to be we’re not
58:06
going to be receptive we are not
58:07
receptive to messages from people who
58:10
deny our most our most basic needs as
58:14
being you know terrible things that we
58:16
should be ashamed of wanting and so
58:18
maybe just maybe just think of that
58:21
did I miss anything no no not at all I
58:25
didn’t want to say you brought up you
58:27
brought up people who want want children
58:32
stripped from their families at the
58:33
border we actually had two weeks ago at
58:36
a New Hanover County Meetup we had an
58:38
actual self-proclaimed Nazi come in and
58:41
told us all he was a Nazi and he was
58:43
very excited to be there and it was just
58:45
a few minutes into it I got him to admit
58:47
I was like you’re here to get punched in
58:48
the face like that’s what you’re yeah
58:50
you want you want somebody to hit you
58:53
and I was like I’m the reason nobody’s
58:55
gonna hit you man we’re gonna have a
58:56
conversation then he was saying a lot of
58:59
people say those things out of tribalism
59:03
and because they’re they’re using heard
59:05
speak and oh yeah when you confront that
59:09
idea most people don’t really mean it so
59:11
he was saying things like if you don’t
59:14
produce for the state you should be
59:15
euthanized and just ridiculous stuff and
59:18
I was like I don’t believe you yeah I
59:21
don’t yeah I don’t think you’re a
59:24
murderous person I don’t think you’re
59:26
that venomous I think you’re after a
59:28
little bit of attention and you’re
59:30
probably a really good hearted dude that
59:31
doesn’t want to do that to anybody and
59:33
the guy like fell apart right there he
59:36
is this whole thing was just broken down
59:38
and he was like for the rest of the time
59:40
he sat there he was really interested in
59:42
our ideas and was just kind of soaking
59:44
up what was going on and let me know
59:46
that was being confronted with a Nazi in
59:49
a room that by the way that had two Jews
59:53
is sitting there talking to this not
59:56
see guy just kind of explaining to him
59:59
why his ideas aren’t as good as ours and
60:01
maybe you know maybe you look at it this
60:04
way and here’s a different perspective
60:05
and he actually left the meeting and
60:07
leans in and goes you know a lot of your
60:09
ideas are pretty solid and they’re
60:11
better than mine and I’ll be back
60:13
so yeah just a minimal amount of good
60:16
messaging a modicum of salesmanship can
60:19
really turn folks around and we convert
60:21
you know communists to anarchists and
60:24
libertarians on a regular basis here so
60:27
that’s that’s awesome if you can relate
60:31
to a Nazi or or relate to not Nazism but
60:37
relate to that person who is claiming to
60:39
be a Nazi yeah careful I’m I’m already
60:41
wearing the redneck moniker it does not
60:43
take people long to jump from there to
60:45
Nazi no no and that’s and that’s the
60:47
thing that’s that’s why I was being
60:48
clear on that like if but if you can
60:50
relate to a human being who comes in
60:53
going yeah you should be euthanized
60:54
because you’re not helping the state or
60:55
whatever crap that like you said and I
60:57
would have said like I don’t believe you
60:59
you’re here in front of us so I don’t
61:01
believe you because why are you here
61:02
you’re here and I think you nailed it he
61:04
wanted to get punch so he could be the
61:06
next internet Nazi that got punched and
61:07
you know get whatever attention liked or
61:09
would at whatever negative it he came
61:11
for negative attention and instead he
61:14
had people say no we get it
61:15
you’re lonely like we can be friends and
61:18
talk about this because you don’t that’s
61:20
garbage you don’t believe that garbage
61:21
um if you can do that with a Nazi then
61:26
you can do it with a Democrat or a
61:27
Republican most of whom are just kind of
61:31
moderate you know they may not like they
61:34
don’t like Donald Trump or they don’t
61:36
like Alexandria occasional Cortes or
61:38
what but like they’re not these like
61:39
caricatures of Democrats and replace our
61:42
but most of them are not they’re just
61:44
like they are just worried about if the
61:49
roads are gonna get fixed like we joke
61:51
about the roads but they are worried
61:53
about the roads they need to get to work
61:55
and their tax concern it is something
61:58
that they should care about if they
62:00
don’t worry about what happens to the
62:02
roads then they’re idiots why would you
62:05
not empathize with that and say hey
62:08
roads exist
62:09
before government and here’s how we’ll
62:11
do it tomorrow you know it’s it’s pretty
62:14
simple stuff yeah me just useful
62:16
offended by the question what about the
62:18
roads and we think it’s so funny
62:20
I mean it’s legit what I want to be able
62:23
to get to work I need to be able to get
62:24
the food lyin
62:25
how am I gonna buy my industrial-sized
62:27
tub of mayonnaise if I can’t get to
62:29
Costco yeah it’s important that’s a
62:32
personal attack against me I I don’t I
62:34
don’t like mayonnaise but I do like
62:36
buying buying giant tubs of things from
62:38
Costco most of mostly smoked meats and
62:41
fish and and sauerkraut because I am
62:44
Jewish um but ya know I mean right so
62:48
when I hear the things I most commonly
62:49
hear with mine or me social circle and
62:52
and and friends and my wife or our
62:56
because my wife is not an anarchist she
62:58
is a Canadian yeah yeah um it all washes
63:04
out what’s that she’s real pretty it’s a
63:08
wife he’s gorgeous her politics are
63:10
gorgeous um but um but when they’ll ask
63:14
you know here are the things that you’re
63:16
often what about roads how do we not end
63:18
up like Somalia how do we you know what
63:21
about my kids in the education who’s
63:23
gonna keep us safe from China the
63:26
terrorists name your thing who’s gonna
63:28
keep us safe from people coming to take
63:30
my job who is gonna and we laugh about
63:32
this because it’s something we hear all
63:34
the time but these are all legitimate
63:35
things no one wants this place to become
63:37
like Somalia that is a legit if what
63:41
you’ve related to your whole life if
63:42
what you’ve heard of when you think of
63:43
anarchy is Somalia Mad Max and people
63:47
with you know balaclavas on throwing
63:49
Molotov cocktails at cops trying to help
63:52
people across the street and you know
63:55
try to keep traffic going those are
63:57
legitimate concerns you’re coming at
63:59
these people and saying I’m an anarchist
64:01
what would that have sounded like to you
64:03
five years ago ten years ago whenever
64:06
you were not an anarchist and had not
64:08
really been exposed to it what on earth
64:09
would that have sounded like to you oh
64:11
yeah it’s nuts I would have thought you
64:14
were a lunatic and if you had only said
64:17
I’m an anarchist and you’re an idiot
64:19
because you’re not that’s as far as I
64:22
would have gotten out
64:23
well that guy’s dumb and I should
64:24
probably avoid him in the future and out
64:26
a minute that would be in the last
64:27
conversation if you can’t have a
64:29
conversation beyond that and and discuss
64:32
people’s concerns and their wants and
64:34
their needs if you’re not doing anything
64:36
productive for the movement you know
64:38
you’re just you’re sucking up air yeah
64:41
no I I I agree I agree and and and it
64:46
bares itself out with arguments within
64:48
libertarians like you see
64:50
anarcho-capitalists argue with a narco
64:52
communist and I used to do it too
64:54
because i lean more towards being a what
64:55
I guess an anarcho-capitalist or
64:57
whatever I’m definitely a believer in
64:59
inner in private ownership and markets
65:02
um but interestingly enough when I talk
65:04
to a narco communist and I realized that
65:07
there wasn’t as much daylight between
65:08
what we thought as I thought that it was
65:11
like they also believed in markets they
65:13
just basically think they think that
65:15
without the state it will manifest
65:16
itself a lot differently than I do and
65:19
ultimately at this point we both agree
65:21
in the idea of property we both agree
65:23
with the idea of some level of self
65:26
ownership or ownership of things we both
65:29
believe in getting rid of coercive
65:32
entities so that we can have voluntary
65:34
structures of society and and economics
65:38
and so forth so then why bother arguing
65:40
about it now if we’re both agreed that
65:43
this is this ain’t it chief like this is
65:46
not what it’s gonna look like we all
65:48
agree with that we all agree that we
65:51
want something that looks radically
65:52
different from this and we all agree
65:55
that neither real communism nor real
65:58
capitalism haven’t really been allowed
66:00
by the state then what are we arguing
66:02
about why not focus on getting rid of
66:04
those impediments and then once there’s
66:07
no more coercive entity we can see how
66:10
it plays out maybe it’ll be communism
66:12
maybe it’ll be capitalism maybe it’ll be
66:14
something in between maybe it’ll be
66:15
something that we don’t even really can
66:17
figure out right now because it’s we’re
66:19
so imposed upon by the state
66:20
why are you about that now yeah we’re
66:23
more likely you know maybe it’ll be a
66:25
bunch of small communities deciding the
66:27
best economic system for themselves of
66:29
course and not using violence and I
66:32
really feel like this that’s it man just
66:33
let’s remove the initiation of four
66:36
and then worry about how everything
66:38
plays out right and I mean as far as
66:41
we’re concerned you know let’s answer
66:42
questions for foreign armies you know as
66:45
much as we can of course yeah yeah yeah
66:47
but yeah let’s answer questions for them
66:50
but in our own community yeah it’s
66:52
ridiculous that we we fight and argue
66:54
over economic systems or or you know a
66:58
platform plank or whatever I mean we
67:01
agree on 90% of the stuff why are we
67:04
arguing about the 10% we don’t agree on
67:06
it’s for a group of utterly illogical
67:09
folks that’s kind of dumb well and it’s
67:12
something that that a small part that we
67:15
don’t agree on and that there’s nothing
67:16
like neither one of us can prove it
67:18
because the state exists we neither one
67:20
of us can prove that we’re right it’s
67:22
largely irrelevant right now because the
67:25
state exists it would be like two people
67:27
in prison arguing over once they break
67:29
out or once they get let out are they
67:32
gonna start a fishing you know uh you
67:35
know a fish a bait shop or are they
67:36
gonna start up you know sub shop or you
67:40
know whatever like and they like really
67:42
get mad and argue over it’s like what
67:43
the hell cares get out of prison and
67:44
then then then you can do whatever the
67:46
hell you want maybe you do that and I do
67:48
that and I agree with you I don’t think
67:49
there’s gonna be a global in any kind of
67:51
voluntary system you’re not gonna have
67:54
some global system you’re gonna have
67:56
it’s gonna look completely different in
67:58
a rural area rural area in the south
68:01
like where you are or in a resort town
68:03
like Myrtle Beach or in a major
68:05
metropolitan area like in New York if if
68:07
if a major metropolitan area can even be
68:09
supported without you know a status
68:11
system those things are going to look
68:13
different based on their needs and wants
68:15
of the people there so I know I agree
68:17
with you 100% um yeah so Brent it has
68:22
been an absolute pleasure having you
68:24
want III you’re someone that I have when
68:26
when I would have had you on months ago
68:29
except my back went out and I had to
68:31
take a break from the show for two
68:32
months so you were like literally the I
68:34
think what second second person that’s
68:36
been on since I started again so I’m
68:38
super thrilled to have you on I really
68:40
appreciate your time before before we
68:44
wrap things up I just want to give you a
68:46
chance to give any final thoughts you
68:48
want to give anything you think we
68:49
didn’t get a chance to
68:50
discuss anything you want to plug you
68:53
have absolutely as much time as you want
68:55
Brenda Ritter the floor is yours all
68:58
right well yeah so I would ask all of
69:02
your listeners to do exactly what you
69:04
said earlier and and point someone in
69:07
the direction of a salesman of Liberty
69:09
if you if you are not one yourself find
69:13
me on Facebook send me your friends and
69:15
family that’s what I do for you know a
69:18
fair amount of my week is is convert
69:21
status so hit one of us up send them to
69:24
spikes enemy send them to Shane Sweeney
69:26
one of these genius redneck salesman’s
69:30
salesman of Liberty if you are
69:33
interested in the Liberty loop please
69:34
join the group it’s it’s to assist with
69:38
graphics and marketing and things like
69:39
that and kind of help me figure out how
69:41
to make it all the way without sinking
69:43
my boat so hit me up if you’re in any of
69:47
my projects always glad to have
69:49
volunteers yeah absolutely and we have
69:51
all of that in the show notes and we’ll
69:53
have that on the website as well so
69:56
definitely that’s very we will
69:58
definitely do us a Brent again thank you
70:00
thank you for coming on again I really
70:02
appreciate it it’s awesome this was a
70:04
really easy interview man you’re if
70:06
you’re super easy to talk to so I’m
70:10
super glad to be on finally that’s
70:12
alright that’s great yeah I appreciate
70:13
it I am NOT like I’m not here for I told
70:15
you I’m gonna forgot your questions at
70:17
least not for you but probably someone
70:18
else I’ll bring on and play nail on but
70:20
I for the most part I like to like have
70:21
very cool fun conversational thing but
70:24
yeah thank you again stick around for a
70:26
minute I want to talk to you during the
70:28
outro if you don’t mind
70:30

70:54

70:56

70:59

71:04

71:06

71:07
